Description:
- An interview with Norman John MacMillan, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Canadian National. The film is presented by the Canadian National Reporter and Mr. MacMillan is interviewed by three representatives from the Reporter: Mary Hebb, Normand Bernier, and Don Law. Following a brief review of his early life and career, MacMillan responds to questions concerning the operations of CN and its multi-faceted role in Canadian life. Among the areas he touches on are: CN's freight service; its passenger operation; telecommunications; hotel and highway businesses; and its launching into solids pipeline operations. He also deals with the image of CN at home and abroad, the new CN symbol, and the increasing use of the french language in all its services. Employment trends in the railroad are examned and the issues of management-employee relationships, strikes, lay-off policies, and educational standards are discussed. In response to the final question, Mr. MacMillan says his chief objective is "to run the best railroad in the world". <30mn>
