Description:
- Sound recording of the launching of the Bluenose in 1955. Built by Daly Shipbuilders of Quebec and operated by the Canadian National Railway, the Bluenose was to sail between Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and Barr Harbour, Maine.
- Recording opens with "God Save the Queen" and the "Star Spangled Banner". The Minister of Transport then introduces the guests, talks about the legacy of the Bluenose and describes the new ship. Madame Louis St. Laurent christens the ship. Speeches on the significance of the ship are then given by: Robert Winters, Federal Minister of Public Works; David Nichols, Executive Council representing the Governor of Maine; A.W. Mackenzie, Minister of Highways in Nova Scotia; and Donald Gordon, President of Canadian National.
