- 1. Material was received from Dawson City in 2 shipments - 506 reels in 1978 and 26 reels in 1980. Of these 389 reels, primarily of American fiction, were transferred to Library of Congress for conversion. Reference copies of some of these reels were returned to NFTSA.

- The words WITH THE U.S.. ARMY AT SAN FRANCISO and the Keystone logo appear in all intertitles in this footage. The first intertitle also reads: TENT PITCHING. Footage shows two groups of soldiers putting up tents. A longer shot shows a large number of tents already set up. Intertitle: PREPARING FOR A SHAM BATTLE. "DIGGING TRENCHES". A group of soldiers is shown digging a trench. Intertitle: SKIRMISHERS SETTING UP MACHINE GUNS TO HOLD BACK THE ADVANCE. A soldier takes a gun from a pack on a horse. Several soldiers run and set up the guns in a field. Intertitle: OPPOSING FORCE ADVANCING TO ATTACK. Footage shows a large group of soldiers marching in formation out of the trees and onto a field. Several soldiers dig a trench under the supervision of an officer. Intertitle: THE INFANTRY CHARGE. There is a very long shot of the infantry charge. Intertitle: FILLING SAND BAGS FOR BREAST WORKS. Footage shows soldiers filling sand bags. There is a long shot of the infantry charge as it continues across the field. Intertitle: MASKING THE TRENCHES. As some soldiers continue to dig trenches, others place shrubbery as camouflage. The infantry charge approaches the trenches. Intertitle: CAPTURING THE TRENCHES. The charging soldiers arrive at the trenches. No shots are fired. Intertitle: MOUNTAIN BATTERY GOING INTO ACTION. Mounted soldiers ride toward the camera. Intertitle: BATTERY PREPARED FOR ACTION. The soldiers stop the horses, dismount, unload a machine gun from one of the pack mules and set it up. Intertitle: SUNSET GUN. This is followed by a brief shot of a soldier firing a large, permanently-mounted gun. The final intertitle reads: PASSED BY THE NATIONAL BOARD OF CENSORS.

Notes:
- 1. This was the second half of a spit reel, itself comprising two stories (this and PROTECTING SAN FRANCISCO FROM FIRE). Nothing was salvageable from the first film, and the beginning of this was also deteriorated. Damage at the head is severe for approx. 150 feet only. This reel was originally shipped to the United States for conversion, but returned to Canada in 1983 and converted here.
