Description:
- The reconstruction of the ports of Belgium is being actively carried on -- recent pictures show this little kingdom still has a lot to do to repair wanton damage caused by the Hun. There is a panning shot of the port of Bruges. A great deal of damage becomes visible. Another shot appears to be of a sunken ship. This is followed by footage of the port of Zeebruge, with a long panning shot of bombed buildings near the railway tracks. The pan continues out over the water.
- [Winter Sports in Ottawa]. Winter sports are aplenty now owing to a heavy fall of snow. Ski experts show what they can do. Footage taken from the top of a hill shows a skier going down as the intertitle says "taking the famous 'suicide' dive". More footage, from the bottom of the hill, shows three skiers coming down the hill. The next intertitle reads "skimming over the hills of Rockcliffe" and is followed by footage of skiers on a gentle slope, and of a man on skis being propelled along by two men walking. Next, a group of skiers are skiing in a straight line, but one loses control and the entire line falls.
- [Machine Gun Transportation in Belgium]. Adopt new method for machine gun transportation -- specially trained dogs are now employed in the Belgian Army. A soldier stands beside a dog team hooked up to a mobile gun. A dog team runs with the camera behind them. A soldier races across a field, toward the camera. The dogs learn to obey the commands of the soldier. At the command of the soldier, the dog follows him across the field. Soldiers at a machine-gun emplacement fire their weapons. The footage cuts to a beach, and to a post standing, under fire. The post begins to fall over slowly.
- [The Auto-Sled Plows Through Deep Snow in Easton, Washington]. An auto-sled is shown plowing through a snow-covered field and down a road towing a sled loaded with passengers. The auto-sled is a car mounted on four tread-type wheels. The wheels are very wide and are marked with a spiral tread. The wheels spin toward the outside to propel the car. Other footage shows: close-up of the wheels, the car travelling through snow, and skis visible at the front.
- A Wintry Deck of Cards. College girls of Northampton, Massachusetts stage an outdoor skating show. Footage shows two sections of one of the performances, and costumed skaters, both men and women, moving in formation on the ice.
- Chicago, Illinois: [Lucy Page Gaston Announces Her Candidacy for President]. Lucy Page Gaston, whose platform consists of an anti-smoking theme, is seen in Chicago, Ill., with a crowd of young followers - "youthful crusaders with the Order of the League". Her slogan is "no smokes". There is a panning shot, from behind a group of children, who listen to Gaston who stands on some steps. The children cheer wildly. She pins little lapel buttons on two young children as the intertitle explains "Decorating youthful crusaders with the Order of the League". There is a close-up of her face as she speaks.
- [Floods Devastate Towns in the Meurthe Valley, France]. War-ravaged lands of Eastern France suffer new disaster -- terrific floods devastate entire towns, and render thousands homless and destitute. There are panning shots of farms and fields partially submerged and of rubble washed up by the flood waters.A bridge is left destroyed. A fire brigade officer warns the inhabitants to flee, in fear of the river rising even higher. The officer beats on a drum to atttact the attention of a crowd. He reads from a piece of paper to the assembled crowd.
