- 1. Material was received from Dawson City in 2 shipments - 506 reels in 1978 and 26 reels in 1980. Of these 389 reels, primarily of American fiction, were transferred to Library of Congress for conversion. Reference copies of some of these reels were returned to NFTSA.

- New York, N.Y. Henry Elionski is the ninteen year old giant, who swims from the Brooklyn Bridge to Bay Ridge with his hands and feet shackled, towing seven men in a boat. He covers the distance in three hours and five minutes.
- San Francisco, Cal. Major General Arthur Murray delivers an address at the dedication of the Kansas State Building site on the exposition grounds.
- Tuscaloosa, Ala. Senator Bankhead delivers an address at the ceremony for the opening of the water route to New Orleans which will be of great value to ships using the Panama Canal.
- Madrid, Spain. King Alphonse XIII of Spain leaves the office of the Minister of Justice after securing the pardon of the man who attempted regicide.
- Editorial Section. In the effort to find an effective device to lessen the number of train wrecks in line with the "safety first" policy of the railroads, the Gray Thurber Automatic Train Control is successfully tested at Pittsburg before the Congressional Committee.
- Coffeville, Kan. Walter Johnson, crack pitcher for the Washington Americans, receives a loving cup from his appreciative neighbours when they celebrate "Johnson Day". At the same time Larry Chenky, pitcher with the Chicago Nationals, is given a gold watch.
